Can We Rate Organizations on Intrinsic Motivation?

Length:
120

A number of media and institutes have different ways of rating the "best organizations to work for". But many of them include external motivators, such as the size of pay-checks and bonuses. And most of them publish a "top X companies", which means only big companies end up on the list.

Can we come up with a different way of "rating" organizations?

Can we come up with criteria to measure _any_ organization, instead of having a "top 100"?

Can we turn these criteria into Best Questions that people can ask their future employers in job interviews?

I want to help people understand how well their (current or new) employers stack up against each other in terms of _intrinsic_ motivation.

  1. Interesting idea. Most of the 'Top X employers' lists are, ahum..., mildly influenced by subscription fees from the organisations in the list.

Creating a truly independent listing would be useful, and especially if it can be based on 'stoos' values.

  2. I wonder how close your idea is to what worldBlu.com is already doing...

Can any person discover the WorldBlu rating of any organization in the world? Can a job candidate in a job interview ask about the new employer's WorldBlu rating?

The answer is no in both cases. :)

  4. Well, unless you accept values of 1(=on the list) and 0(=not on the list) as a rating... ;)

Still, I wonder what kind of questions they are asking...

Indeed, it will be worth checking out before going to Amsterdam. I believe employees themselves should be asking such questions...

    1. Agreed, on both accounts. :)

  6. I’d like to propose adding an alternative approach for this topic, one that isn't based on data or rating but on very few keywords. The keywords: trust, integrity ("without integrity nothing works") and growing the business from helping the client (as opposed to “helping the client but don't tell what's to come later"). Why? For clients and future employees it would reduce the challenge to a single question: Do these values life in the organisation or do they exist on paper only?
